International workGlobal cooperationIt is no longer possible to support journalists and journalism simply from within Finland’s borders. All issues have an international dimension. The union carries out international interest supervision and lobbying work together with the International Federation of Journalists IFJ and above all in the framework of the European Federation of Journalists EFJ. Joint interest supervision is also the purpose of the intensive Nordic cooperation within the Nordic Journalists Federation NJF. The union promotes journalists’ occupational safety as a member of the International News safety Institute INSI. On an international level too, solidarity lies at the heart of trade union activity. 0.7% of income from membership subscription is used for development projects promoting freedom of speech and journalists’ trade union work through the solidarity activity of the Communication and Development Foundation (Vikes). Working together with neighbouring unionsThe UJF and it's branches on the eastern border have close ties with the Russian Union of Journalists RUJ and it's branches in Northwest Russia. UJF's Northern branch PSSY is a very active member of the unique northern cross-border cooperation network Barents Press between journalists from Finland, Norway, Russia and Sweden. The union also cooperates with the Estonian Union of Journalists EAL. |
