Join the Union!

The membership of the Union of Journalist in Finland can be applied by those who get their primary livelihood from journalistic or broadcast work.

Primary livelihood is acquired either as a salaried employee or as a freelancer. As for those in fixed-term employment, the requirement is that the employment relationship will continue for about six months from the date of application, and freelance membership requires at least one year of working in the business. For those with training in communication, six months’ full-time working in the business is sufficient.

Those studying for a journalistic profession at universities or polytechnics can become student members. Other university studies can be accepted, too, if the applicant has a clear goal in the business and experience in journalistic work. Student membership can be applied when the studies have lasted for six months.
